Shania Twain appeared in 2003, but shared the show with No Doubt and Sting. Eric Church wants Nashville to change that. He was part of the group that helped bring the 2030 Super Bowl to Nashville, where the game will be played at the new Nissan Stadium. And when asked about halftime, Church made one thing clear: he is not campaigning for himself. He is campaigning for country music. Church said he will do everything he can to make sure the genre has a place in that halftime show. The man who had given up his seat on Buddy Holly’s plane in 1959, defied Nashville with *Honky Tonk Heroes*, and ridden alongside Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson as one of The Highwaymen left behind 16 No. 1 country hits — and a 22-year-old son still finding his own voice. Shooter Jennings was that son. Two days after Waylon’s death, at a family memorial in Arizona, Shooter stepped forward and sang “I’ve Always Been Crazy,” his father’s 1978 No. 1 hit. More than two decades later, Shooter opened another door into his father’s life. Inside Waylon’s archive were hundreds of full-band recordings that had never been released, many dating from the heart of his 1970s and 1980s career. Shooter began sorting through the tapes and discovered what he described as entire “hidden albums.” The first, *Songbird*, arrived in October 2025.
