George Strait’s Son Bubba: Proving Talent Runs Deep in the Family

When it comes to country music, the name George Strait is legendary. But it turns out he isn’t the only member of the Strait family with remarkable talent. His son, George “Bubba” Strait Jr., has quietly built a name for himself—not as a performer in the spotlight, but as a gifted songwriter who has contributed to some of his father’s most memorable music.

Bubba first made his mark on the 2009 Billboard #1 album Twang, earning co-writing credits alongside his father and esteemed songwriter Dean Dillon. His work included the heartfelt single “Living for the Night” as well as tracks like “Out of Sight, Out of Mind,” “Arkansas Dave,” and “He’s Got That Something Special.” Bubba’s presence on the record gave it a deeply personal touch, showcasing the strong musical bond between father and son.

Only two years later, Bubba returned to co-write several songs for Strait’s 2011 chart-topping album Here for a Good Time. His songwriting credits included the title track “Here for a Good Time,” as well as fan favorites such as “Drinkin’ Man,” “Shame on Me,” “House Across the Bay,” “Three Nails and a Cross,” “Blue Marlin Blues,” and “I’ll Always Remember You.” These tracks added depth and storytelling to the album, highlighting Bubba’s natural ability to craft meaningful lyrics.

Bubba’s contributions didn’t stop there. He continued to play an important role in his father’s music, co-writing much of the material on the 2019 album Honky Tonk Time Machine. Fans were even treated to a special moment when George and Bubba performed “Arkansas Dave” together during the 2014 CMT concert special George Strait: The Cowboy Rides Away, recorded at Strait’s final tour stop in Arlington, Texas. This rare performance captured the undeniable chemistry between the two generations of Strait musicians.

Beyond music, Bubba Strait has also proven himself in another arena: rodeo. As an accomplished team roper, he competed with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and took part in major events, including the 2006 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This combination of cowboy grit and creative artistry shows that Bubba embodies the very spirit of country living.

In the Strait family, it’s clear that legacy means more than just music. With Bubba carrying forward his father’s passion while carving his own path, the future of the Strait name remains as strong as ever—rooted in tradition, talent, and an unshakable love for the cowboy way of life.
